Former IAS officer Ripnar Lyngdoh sworn in as Meghalaya Chief Information Commissioner

Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar administered the oath of office at Lok Bhavan in Shillong on November 5.

Former IAS officer Ripnar Lyngdoh was sworn in as the Meghalaya State Chief Information Commissioner on November 5 at Lok Bhavan in Shillong, according to reports by The Sentinel and Meghalaya Monitor.

Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar administered the oath of office during a ceremony attended by Chief Secretary Dr Shakil P Ahammed, Additional Chief Secretary H C Chaudhary, and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Secretary Isawanda Laloo.

Lyngdoh previously served as a member of the Meghalaya State Information Commission from August 2023 until October 3 this year. Her appointment fills the vacancy caused by the death of former Chief Information Commissioner Rebecca V Suchiang in August.

The new Commissioner will hold the post for a term of two years from her date of joining or until she reaches the age of 65, whichever comes earlier. Her tenure and service conditions will be governed by the Right to Information Rules, 2019.

As the head of the Meghalaya State Information Commission, Lyngdoh will oversee the implementation of the Right to Information Act, 2005, to ensure transparency and accountability in public authorities.
