Uttar Pradesh provides LPG refill subsidy to 1.89 crore families

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced free LPG cylinders for Ujjwala beneficiaries on Diwali and Holi.

The Uttar Pradesh government has provided more than Rs 1,500 crore in LPG refill subsidies to 1.89 crore families under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana for Diwali, according to a report by Urban Acres.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Tuesday in Lucknow that eligible families will also receive a free LPG cylinder on Holi, ANI reported.

The state government transferred the subsidy amount directly to gas companies so that beneficiaries do not have to pay the amount payable for a domestic cylinder refill.

Adityanath explained that a domestic LPG cylinder costs Rs 983.45, and after a central subsidy of Rs 335.40, the beneficiary share is Rs 648.55.

The Chief Minister stated that the state government decided to provide one cylinder to poor families under the scheme on Diwali and Holi so they could use the savings for sweets and lamps.

Adityanath also said that the government has provided free gas connections to poor families, describing it as good governance.
