Bengaluru food and sweet prices to rise after ingredient hikes
Increased costs for ghee, butter and paneer will lead to higher prices for various dishes and sweets across the city.
Hotel associations and sweet shops in Bengaluru are set to increase prices for food items and sweets due to rising costs of ghee, butter and paneer, according to The Hindu.
Bangalore Hotels Association secretary Veerendra Kamat said that tea and coffee prices in hotels across the city have already risen by ₹3 to ₹5 following previous increases in milk and curd prices.
Kamat stated that items such as ghee rice, pongal, bisibele bath, kesari bath, upma and various breads like naan and parotta will also see price hikes. He noted that the average price of a ghee masala dosa, currently between ₹120 and ₹130, may rise to ₹125 or ₹135.
The association secretary added that price increases for several items will be limited to ₹5 to avoid impacting customer footfall. He clarified that the association cannot mandate standard pricing, as hotels set rates based on location, scale of business and profit margins.
Madhu Iyengar, general secretary of the Karnataka Bakeries, Sweets and Cafe Association (KBSCA), said the ghee price hike has impacted budgets. While sweets have not yet seen increases during the festival season, the association may raise prices by 3 per cent to 5 per cent in December.
Arjun P., a manager at a sweet outlet, said that prices for items like Mysore Pak and Kaju Katli may increase by ₹5 to ₹10 during the December or New Year period.
