Gujarat receives Rs 23 lakh crore in data centre investment proposals

Twenty-seven projects with a combined capacity of 24 gigawatts have been proposed within four months of the state's new policy.

Gujarat has secured investment proposals totaling over Rs 23 lakh crore for 27 data centre projects, according to The Times of India. These proposals, which offer a combined capacity of approximately 24 gigawatts (GW), come within four months of the state announcing its data centre policy.

Dholera, a smart industrial city in Ahmedabad district, has emerged as the primary location for these investments. The area accounts for nearly three-fourths of the proposed capacity, with 19 proposals worth more than Rs 18 lakh crore and a capacity of 17GW.

Major companies including Reliance Industries, Adani Infra, HyperVault, Welspun, Torrent Power, UPL, and L&T have submitted proposals. This response exceeds the Viksit Gujarat Data Centre Policy 2026-29 targets, which aimed for investments over Rs 6 lakh crore and 7.5GW of capacity.

A source stated that these investments will strengthen the state's position as a strategic hub for secure data hosting and hyperscale AI computing. The policy, unveiled on July 9, provides financial incentives, infrastructure support, and regulatory relaxations to attract large-scale investments.

Under the policy, eligible projects receive a power tariff subsidy of Re 1 per unit and 100 per cent electricity duty reimbursement for 20 years. Land transactions are also exempt from registration charges and stamp duty.

The government is providing additional support including dual power supply, round-the-clock water, and faster statutory clearances. The policy also includes funding for captive desalination plants, capped at 20 per cent of eligible capital expenditure or Rs 2 crore per million litres per day.
