JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal meets West Bengal CM
Discussions focused on a ₹50,000 crore investment plan covering power, ports, cement, and steel sectors in the state.
JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal met West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at the Nabanna state secretariat on Wednesday evening. According to Business Standard, the meeting focused on investment opportunities in power, power systems, ports, cement, and steel.
Jindal described the discussion as very good. The group's planned investment in West Bengal is estimated at ₹50,000 crore, with ₹40,000 crore allocated for power and ₹10,000 crore for other sectors.
Chief Minister Adhikari stated that Jindal intends to hold the bhoomipujan for the second unit of his power plant during the first week of January. This follows the start of work in April 2025 on a 1,600-megawatt (MW) power plant at Salboni in Paschim Medinipur district.
The Salboni project, which involves an investment of ₹16,000 crore, is the largest greenfield plant in the JSW Energy portfolio. It is also the largest private sector thermal power project in West Bengal. The foundation stone for this project and the JSW Industrial Park was previously laid by former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
