Demonstrators called for the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and the cancellation of the Suspension of Operations pact.
Hundreds of people held a rally in Manipur's Ukhrul district on Thursday to demand an end to ethnic violence in the state, according to reports by Deccan Chronicle and The Hindu.
The 'People's Rally' at the Ukhrul district headquarters included women and elderly participants who called for the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, a member of the Kuki community.
Protesters also demanded the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact, which is a three-party agreement involving the Centre, the Manipur government, and various Kuki and Zomi militant groups.
The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Tangkhul frontal organisations organised the event under the United Naga Council (UNC), with a similar protest held in Kamjong district.
Participants used placards to demand that Kuki militants be declared terrorists and called for the removal of Assam Rifles from Naga-dominated areas.
Since February, ethnic clashes between Kuki and Naga communities have resulted in more than 50 deaths and the burning of dozens of houses across several districts, including Tamenglong and Kangpokpi.
