The Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully conducted user evaluation trials of the quasi-ballistic missile on Thursday.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a flight test of the indigenously developed Pralay missile off the coast of Odisha on Thursday, according to Moneycontrol. The missile was test-fired from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island at approximately 11:10 am as part of user evaluation trials.
The Pralay is a short-range surface-to-surface quasi-ballistic missile with a range of 150 to 500 km. It features solid propellant and a payload capacity of 500 to 1,000 kg, allowing it to carry different types of conventional warheads against various targets.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated on X that the test met all stipulated objectives as validated by data from range instruments. He described the trial as a significant milestone in strengthening India's indigenous defence capabilities.
The missile was developed by the Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, alongside other DRDO laboratories. Bharat Dynamics Limited served as a development-cum-production partner and manufactured the system.
The Defence Ministry said that with the successful test, the induction of the system has become imminent. The flight test was conducted in the presence of senior DRDO officials, industry representatives, and the Defence Forces.
