22 labourers rescued from Peddavagu floodwaters in Eluru district

The workers were stranded after the approach road to a bridge was washed away by heavy flows caused by cyclone Murasu.

Twenty-two daily wage workers were rescued from the swollen Peddavagu stream in the Buttayigudem mandal of Eluru district on Wednesday evening, according to the Deccan Chronicle.

The workers, hailing from Reddy Ganapavaram and Kanakapuram villages, were crossing a bridge near Rowthugudem in Jeelugumilli mandal after completing work in oil palm plantations.

The group became trapped when the approach road to the bridge was washed away by floodwaters caused by cyclone Murasu.

District collector K. Vetri Selvi initiated rescue operations after being informed of the incident.

NDRF personnel, local police, and revenue staff reached the site and used a JCB machine to rescue the workers.

The rescued workers were moved to a cyclone relief centre in Buttayigudem, where they received medical attention and food.
