Rs 7 crore girls' hostel announced for Samba
Minister Javed Ahmed Rana announced the project to improve accommodation for tribal girl students during a community interaction.
Minister for Tribal Affairs, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and Transport, Javed Ahmed Rana, announced the construction of a Rs 7 crore girls' hostel in Samba on Tuesday. According to the Daily Excelsior, the facility aims to improve educational infrastructure and provide better housing for tribal girl students.
The announcement took place during an interaction with tribal community members in Samba as part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Pakhwada, which is being observed across Jammu and Kashmir from November 1 to 15. During the session, Rana heard grievances regarding education, healthcare, housing, electricity, road connectivity, drinking water, and livelihood opportunities.
Rana stated that the Janjatiya Gaurav Pakhwada serves to celebrate tribal heritage and improve the implementation of welfare and development schemes at the grassroots level. He said the government is committed to ensuring development benefits reach eligible tribal households, especially in remote and underserved areas.
The Minister instructed sectoral departments to allocate development funds for tribal communities under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) following NITI Aayog and Ministry for Tribal Affairs guidelines. He noted that allocations should match the tribal population and their specific developmental needs.
Rana also directed the Samba district administration to hold special camps in tribal habitations to identify eligible families not yet covered by welfare schemes. He asked the Deputy Commissioner, Samba, to ensure maximum coverage for households under various social security, health, and employment schemes.
Later, the Minister inspected the FCI Godown at Jatwal in Samba to review food grain availability and the Public Distribution System. He told officers to ensure the regular supply and timely distribution of ration to beneficiaries.
