Kerala aims to become India's first differently-abled friendly state

Chief Minister V D Satheesan announced that the government will unveil new programmes within a month to remove barriers for persons with disabilities.

The Kerala government intends to transform the state into India's first differently-abled friendly state through various comprehensive initiatives, according to The Federal.

Chief Minister V D Satheesan spoke at the inaugural function of the 27th State Special School Youth Festival in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. He stated that the government is developing projects to ensure the state becomes completely barrier-free for differently-abled persons.

Satheesan said the government will announce these programmes within a month, noting that some initiatives have not been implemented elsewhere in the country. He said the goal is to embrace all differently-abled children and ensure they face no obstacles in their daily lives.

As part of this plan, the state will soon begin a process to collect detailed data on differently-abled people. This database will be updated at regular intervals to keep the information current.

The Chief Minister also announced that the government will grant aided status to all special schools with more than 100 students. He said the government would implement this decision regardless of any financial constraints.

Addressing parents, Satheesan said they should not be anxious about the future of their children, as the government will establish an effective system to provide support and protection.
