Rohit Pawar demands judicial probe into alleged MH CET scam

The NCP (SP) MLA proposed that former Supreme Court judge Abhay Oak head an inquiry into the engineering admission irregularities.

NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar on Tuesday demanded an inquiry under the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952, into an alleged MH CET engineering admission scam in Mumbai. According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, Pawar suggested that former Supreme Court judge Abhay Oak lead the probe.

The legislator made a presentation at the YB Chavan Centre alongside career counsellor Vivek Dhoke, Dyansagar Career Care Cell owner Narayan Shingare, and other teachers. The group presented a sting operation that allegedly showed how CET percentiles were manipulated to influence engineering admissions.

Pawar alleged that the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) and Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) in Mumbai saw declining rankings due to admission-related scams. He also questioned the progress of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) previously formed by the state government to investigate the matter.

During the presentation, a sting operation at Expertise Education Pvt Ltd in Pune was shown. In the footage, a manager named Krisha allegedly explained to Mr Shingare how irregularities were performed to assist admissions at four major Maharashtra engineering colleges.

Mr Shingare claimed that Rs 25 lakh was being requested to secure engineering college seats through CET manipulation. He also alleged that a person named Subhendu Prabhat, who operates seven companies from Lucknow, claimed to be the brother of a Cabinet Minister.

Pawar expressed suspicion regarding Eduspark, a company handling examination work, in relation to an alleged data leak. He alleged corruption in the allocation of projects worth Rs 2,300 crore to the company and demanded that examinations return to offline OMR sheet formats this year.
