Maharashtra FDA suspends Cooper Hospital PPP blood bank licence
The blood bank services at Mumbai's Cooper Hospital will remain halted until midnight on November 7 following a suspension by the FDA.
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the public-private-partnership (PPP) blood bank licence at Cooper Hospital in Mumbai for two days starting today, according to The Times of India.
The blood bank is operated by Samarprit Bahuddeshiya Sevabhavi Vikas Sanstha. FDA officials stated that the notice was served 90 days prior and noted that one of the contraventions found was a lack of proper documentation.
Hospital authorities said they will rely on the blood bank at the Trauma Hospital in Jogeshwari for the next two to three days. Services at the Cooper Hospital blood bank can only resume from midnight on November 7.
Last month, the FDA took action against the blood banks at JJ Hospital and Nair Hospital. In those instances, deans involved FDA Minister Narhari Zirwal to secure a stay after the hospitals participated in a private group's blood donation drive in April.
