Three states announce 3 per cent dearness allowance hike for employees

Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Punjab have approved increased dearness allowance rates for government staff and pensioners.

Three state governments have announced a 3 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for their employees and pensioners. According to reports from The News Mill, The Indian Express, and The Tribune, the hikes aim to offset the impact of rising prices.

In Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami approved a rise from 60 per cent to 63 per cent, effective from July 1, 2026. The Chief Minister’s Office stated this aligns with the Central Government's rate. The adjustment will benefit eligible employees in local bodies, state universities, and technical educational institutions.

Arrears for the period between July 1, 2026, and October 31, 2026, will be paid in cash.

In Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's Cabinet approved a 3 per cent hike for approximately 9.69 lakh employees and pensioners. Government spokesperson Jitu Vaghani said the increase will take effect from July 1, 2026, benefiting 4.62 lakh employees and 5.07 lakh retired employees. The state will pay Rs 523 crore in arrears, which will be credited with November 2026 salaries and pensions.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Wednesday that the DA will rise from 50 per cent to 53 per cent. This will benefit around 4 lakh employees and 3.5 lakh pensioners, with an additional expenditure of Rs 330 crore. The enhanced allowance will be released in December and paid alongside November salaries and pensions.
