The state cabinet approved the waiver for the Shree Siddhivinayak Ganpati Mandir Trust to acquire the Ram Mansion Cooperative Housing Society.
The Maharashtra government approved a waiver of the stamp duty payable on the acquisition of the Ram Mansion Cooperative Housing Society by the Shree Siddhivinayak Ganpati Mandir Trust, according to the Hindustan Times.
The Chief Minister’s Office stated that the waived stamp duty amount is ₹2.32 crore (₹2,32,38,700). The decision follows the government's approval of a ₹94.12-crore proposal to acquire the building in Prabhadevi to facilitate temple expansion.
Ram Mansion is a three-storey residential building on a 708-square-metre plot adjacent to the temple. The trust aims to acquire 20 residential and commercial units to improve crowd management and expand facilities for devotees.
The government authorised the trust to purchase residential units at ₹66,000 per square foot, based on existing carpet area plus an additional 40 per cent carpet area incentive. Commercial premises will be acquired at ₹1.11 lakh per square foot.
The acquisition is part of a ₹100-crore expansion plan for the 225-year-old temple. The trust is also in talks to acquire the Siddhivinayak Cooperative Housing Society, which is located on land owned by the trust.
