Tamil Nadu launches Rs 100 special vegetable kit for festival season

The Vetri Special Vegetables Kit containing 10 varieties will be available at 218 cooperative shops and mobile vehicles until November 7.

Tamil Nadu Cooperation Minister V. Gandhiraj launched the sale of the ‘Vetri Special Vegetables Kit’ in Chennai on Thursday, November 5. According to The Hindu, the package contains 10 different types of vegetables and is being sold at a subsidised rate of Rs 100.

The kit, which weighs between 2.55 kg and 2.6 kg, includes items such as potato, tomato, onion, carrot, beans, brinjal, ginger, lemon, coconut, and green chilli. The initiative aims to provide the public with fresh, quality vegetables at prices lower than market rates ahead of the Deepavali festival.

The sale is being organised by the state Cooperative Department through 218 cooperative shops across the state. In Chennai, four mobile vending vehicles, which were also flagged off by the Minister, will sell the kits during regular working hours.

To ensure more people benefit, the state government has limited the sale to one kit per person. The sale is scheduled to continue for three days, until November 7.

One beneficiary, G. Rani, told The Hindu that the kit would have cost more than Rs 150 if the items were bought individually in the market. P.

Amudha, Additional Chief Secretary for Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection, and G. Latha, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, were also present at the launch in Anna Nagar West.
