Manipur law and order crisis consumes half my time, says Singh

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh stated that the state's security issues have limited his ability to focus on development work.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on November 5, 2026, that the state's law and order crisis has occupied 50 per cent of his time since he took office. According to The News Mill, Singh spoke about this while attending the inauguration of INNOTECH FEST 2.0 at the Manipur Science Centre in Takyelpat, Imphal.

Singh mentioned that he spends almost eight hours every day considering solutions for the state's problems. The two-day event was a collaboration between the Manipur Innovation Foundation and the state's department of science and technology under the theme “Innovate – Create – Connect”.

The Chief Minister noted that science and technology are vital for nation-building and said young people must participate to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He also urged government officials to work with honesty and sincerity for the state and country.

Regarding agriculture, Singh said the government has worked to ensure subsidised urea reaches farmers on time. He stated that he had previously questioned agriculture department officers about distribution mechanisms following complaints in past years. He instructed officials to ignore political or influential pressure to ensure fertilisers reach genuine beneficiaries.

Singh claimed that following his discussions with officials, distribution has been smooth this year with no complaints from farmers regarding urea availability. He added that the distribution of rabi crop seeds started in October this year, compared to February in previous years, to assist with double cropping.
