Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to move to official residence
The Chief Minister inspected the Paamani Illam bungalow in Chennai on Thursday as preparations begin for his relocation to Greenways Road.
Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Thursday gave instructions to workers at Paamani Illam, a government bungalow inside the Podhigai campus on Greenways Road, regarding his upcoming move. According to the Deccan Chronicle, the bungalow is being renovated to serve as the Chief Minister’s official residence and camp office.
The 5,000 square feet bungalow is undergoing renovation by the PWD. The structure will include meeting rooms for discussions with officers and Ministers, a waiting area, and space to receive guests and dignitaries.
Vijay is shifting his residence to Greenways Road because his current daily commute from Neelankarai to the Secretariat takes a long time. The Chief Minister noted that his daily travel has been inconveniencing people due to security drills.
Moving to Paamani Illam will allow the Chief Minister to reach the Secretariat in about 15 minutes while causing fewer traffic disruptions. Previously, Vijay has used his residence at a multi-storied building at Foreshore Estate and the facilities at the Secretariat to discharge his duties.
The Chief Minister's office in the Secretariat will soon be moved from the historic Fort St George structure to the 10th floor of the Namakkal Kavignar Maligai.
