Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to make water security a top priority during Karnataka Rajyotsava.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar of complete support for government endeavours regarding water security, according to The Hindu. In a five-page letter released by the Chief Minister’s Office on Thursday, the Prime Minister noted that the challenge posed by drought is immense.

Modi specifically urged the Chief Minister to make water conservation a top priority. He stated that the Union and State governments can work together to bring lasting change, particularly in protecting rivers, lakes, and traditional water bodies.

The Prime Minister observed that the drought challenge is especially significant in the northern parts of the State. He suggested that water security in rural and urban areas can be strengthened through rainwater harvesting, rejuvenation of water bodies, and responsible management.

Modi also called for renewed attention to cleanliness in expanding urban centres. He suggested prioritising scientific waste management, sanitation, and sustainable urban development.

The Prime Minister praised the people of Karnataka for their roles in sectors such as information technology, biotechnology, and aerospace. He added that the Centre provides support to the State through various Central government schemes.

Extending greetings on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava, the Prime Minister remarked that the State preserves its heritage while embracing modernity.
