Sonowal urges stronger BJP grassroots network for Assam tea communities

The Union Minister called for improved organisational coordination and accelerated development for tea tribe communities during a meeting in Dibrugarh.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has called for the strengthening of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) grassroots presence and faster development for Assam’s tea communities. Speaking at an organisational meeting of the BJP Tea Tribes Morcha in Dibrugarh, Sonowal addressed representatives from 17 mandals.

According to The News Mill and ANI, the meeting was organised by the Dibrugarh District Committee at the BJP mandal office. Discussions focused on improving the Morcha’s structure, increasing local engagement, and boosting participation in welfare initiatives for tea communities.

Sonowal emphasised the importance of a responsive organisation that connects with people's aspirations. He advocated for better coordination between units and more involvement from party workers in community activities.

The Minister stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has seen progress in welfare for marginalised groups. He noted that nearly 25 crore people have moved out of multidimensional poverty in the last 12 years through focused delivery of housing, healthcare, and food security.

Sonowal added that tea tribe communities in Assam have benefited from schemes such as Jan Dhan Yojana for financial inclusion. He said the party aims to ensure every tea garden household benefits from development.

The meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Terash Gowalla, Assam Pradesh BJP Tea Tribes Morcha President Dulen Nayak, and Dibrugarh District BJP President Dulal Bora, among other leaders.
