Tejashwi Yadav slams Bihar CM over Madhubani police firing incident

The RJD leader suggested the state government install signboards stating people are responsible for their own safety.

RJD leader and former Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav criticised Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday following a police firing in Madhubani district that killed one person. According to reports by Deccan Herald and The New Indian Express, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) allegedly opened fire on Tuesday after being caught inside the house of an alleged paramour in a village, leaving one 50-year-old man dead and three others injured.

Speaking to reporters at Darbhanga airport, Yadav alleged that the law and order situation in Bihar has deteriorated. He accused the police of turning from protectors into predators and suggested the government should install warning boards in villages and streets stating that people are responsible for their own safety.

Yadav also mocked the Chief Minister regarding recent remarks made in Delhi. Choudhary had stated at a programme that while crimes may occur, the concept of 'apraadh' (crime/offence) has been eliminated in Bihar and there are no criminals.

The RJD leader claimed the Chief Minister cannot distinguish between crime and 'apraadh'. Yadav further alleged that anyone seeking justice from the Bihar Police does so at their own risk.

The ASI allegedly fled the spot after the incident and police are currently searching for him. Chief Minister Choudhary, who began his career with the RJD, has previously maintained that he was falsely implicated in a murder case in Munger during the 1990s.
