Zero tolerance against campus violence, says Minister Roji M. John

The Higher Education Minister stated that the UDF government will not permit any form of violence on educational campuses.

Higher Education Minister Roji M. John said on Thursday that the United Democratic Front (UDF) government will maintain a zero tolerance policy against violence on campuses.

According to The Hindu, the Minister made these remarks in Kalady after inaugurating the college union at Adi Sankara Training College.

He stated that while the government has no intolerance towards campus agitations, violence of any sort will not be permitted at any cost.

The announcement came as Students Federation of India (SFI) activists staged a banner protest at the campus, stating they would not offer an apology as the Minister entered.

The protest was in response to a Sree Sankaracharya University Syndicate decision to allow the conditional withdrawal of suspensions for 12 out of 16 SFI activists involved in incidents on August 13, 2026.

Minister John said the suspended activists had not yet submitted applications to request permission to write exams and had approached the court instead of following university procedures.
