Meghalaya confident in preparations for 39th National Games

The Games Technical Conduct Committee expressed satisfaction after inspecting proposed venues in Shillong and Jowai.

Meghalaya is making steady progress for the 39th National Games scheduled for next year, according to Rediff. Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) chairperson Sunaina Kumari confirmed the status on Thursday.

A five-member GTCC, appointed by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on October 14, visited Meghalaya between November 2 and November 5. The team reviewed various sites in Shillong and Jowai to evaluate infrastructure and readiness.

Kumari told reporters that the committee is satisfied with the current development of infrastructure. She also noted that different state government departments and agencies are coordinating well for the event.

The state has suggested hosting 39 sporting disciplines across Jowai, Shillong, and Tura. While the list includes sports such as archery, athletics, and football, the IOA will make the final decision on the disciplines.

Proposed locations include the Shillong Golf Club, Umiam Lake, the North-Eastern Hill University campus, and the JN Sports Complex. The JN Sports Complex is intended to host the opening ceremony.

The official dates for the National Games have not been announced yet.
