Tripura coach says team can beat anyone after Saurashtra win
Coach Satrajit Lahiri attributed early season struggles to rain-hit training and underdeveloped infrastructure in Agartala.
Tripura secured a 133-run victory against two-time champions Saurashtra on Thursday, according to Rediff. The win in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match follows three initial losses for the team this season.
Coach Satrajit Lahiri told PTI that the team lacked preparation because rain in Agartala prevented pre-season training. He noted that while other teams practised for at least two months, Tripura did not have the same opportunity.
Lahiri said the team's batting had been poor in previous matches, describing it as a failure to maintain consistency. He stated that the team needs to improve its bench strength and red-ball cricket standards to develop the sport in the state.
The coach praised the bowling performance, noting that Saurashtra were restricted to 118 and 208. He singled out spinner Sandip Sarkar, describing him as a terrific talent who should play for his Zone in the Duleep Trophy.
Lahiri also expressed hope that skipper Manishankar Murasingh would receive recognition, including a potential pick in the IPL auction. He described Murasingh as a complete team man and a very good all-rounder.
Tripura will play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy during November and December. The team will first play friendly matches before travelling to Chandigarh.
