Singer Bob Dylan meets Pope Leo XIV in Vatican City

The 85-year-old singer-songwriter visited the Apostolic Palace on Wednesday during his Italian tour of the Rough and Rowdy Ways tour.

US singer-songwriter Bob Dylan met Pope Leo XIV at the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City on Wednesday, according to BBC News.

The meeting occurred during the Rome stop of Dylan's Italian tour. Vatican News reported that the meeting between the two, who both originate from the US Midwest, was brief.

During the visit, Pope Leo XIV presented the Nobel laureate with a rosary, while Dylan gifted the Pope a copy of his autobiography, Chronicles: Volume One. The visit took place before Dylan's scheduled performance on Thursday at the Palazzo dello Sport.

Pope Leo XIV has previously referenced Dylan's work. The Pope quoted Dylan's unreleased 1963 anti-nuclear song, Go Away You Bomb, in the preface to his book, Disarmed and Disarming: Peace Is a Gift.

This was the second time Dylan has met a pope. In 1997, he was invited to perform for Pope John Paul II at the 23rd National Eucharistic Congress in Bologna, where he played four songs.
