Amaal Mallik says films cannot be blamed for Andhra chainsaw attack
The singer argued that upbringing and family values also shape behaviour following the assault on a student in Andhra Pradesh.
Singer and composer Amaal Mallik has stated that cinema alone cannot be held responsible for criminal behaviour following a chainsaw attack at a school in Andhra Pradesh. According to The Indian Express, the attack involved a 21-year-old man who entered a classroom and assaulted two female students, including a Class 10 student.
Mallik condemned the attack as horrifying and wrong, but argued that factors such as family values, upbringing, political climate, and personal trauma also shape individual behaviour. He suggested that if viewers are influenced by films to commit such acts, they are the fool.
The composer noted that while he has enjoyed films like Animal, Kabir Singh, Dhurandhar, and KGF, he has had issues with certain scenes. He stated that audiences should understand the difference between a story and real life.
Mallik also questioned why songs with questionable lyrics are celebrated on reality shows while films face scrutiny. He mentioned his own songs, Kar Gayi Chull and Rom Rom Romantic, alongside tracks like Beedi Jalaile and Munni Badnaam.
He highlighted that rap music on YouTube and Instagram often revolves around themes of murder, power, and aggression. Mallik also stressed that parents should respect age ratings and not take infants to films certified for adult audiences.
