Kamareddy medical college suspends 14 MBBS students for ragging

Fourteen second-year students at Government Medical College, Kamareddy, face suspension following allegations of harassing first-year students.

Authorities at Government Medical College (GMC), Kamareddy, have suspended 14 second-year MBBS students for allegedly ragging first-year students. According to South First, the disciplinary action follows an online complaint filed by junior students with the National Medical Commission (NMC) anti-ragging cell last week.

The NMC alerted both the local police and the college administration after receiving the complaint. An internal inquiry committee subsequently investigated the matter, reviewing video evidence that reportedly confirmed the allegations.

College principal Dr B Valya stated that the second-year students, who reside outside the college hostel, entered the premises where first-year and final-year students stay. Dr Valya noted that the students allegedly troubled the juniors by making them repeatedly introduce themselves.

The principal confirmed that 10 students directly involved in the incident have been suspended for six months, while the remaining four students are barred from attending classes for four months. Dr Valya clarified that third-year students were not involved in the incident.

The college is currently preparing a report on the disciplinary measures taken to submit to the NMC. Kamareddy Police have also conducted an anti-ragging awareness programme on the campus.
