TG Eagle Force arrests Assam-based gang for ganja trafficking in Hyderabad

Five people, including alleged leader Bhaskar Hazarika, were apprehended following six months of surveillance by the Telangana state force.

The Telangana state EAGLE Force arrested five members of an Assam-based interstate drug trafficking network in and around Hyderabad on Thursday, according to the Deccan Chronicle.

Police seized 24.7 kg of ganja during the operation. The group is accused of supplying contraband worth Rs 1.8 crore in the twin cities and is wanted regarding ganja-related financial transactions of Rs 48 lakh.

The arrested individuals include the alleged gang leader Bhaskar Hazarika, Ashish Kumar, Debasis Naik, also known as Pinku Naik, Babu Borah, and Nirmal Hazarika. Officials stated that Ashish Kumar, Debasis Naik, and Babu Borah are suppliers based in Odisha.

TG Eagle Force Director Sandeep Shandilya said the force had been tracking the movements of Hazarika in Telangana, Odisha, Assam, and other states. He described the operation as a remarkable achievement by their teams.

A law and order police officer said Hazarika had been difficult to trace before the force tracked him and four others through sustained surveillance. Officials gathered details on several local peddlers and consumers during the operation.

Further investigation is currently underway to identify local consumers, peddlers, and the remaining members of the network.
