Four bodies of Tamil Nadu fishermen recovered off Andhra Pradesh coast

Search operations continue for five remaining fishermen after their boat capsized during Cyclone Murasu.

Four fishermen from Tamil Nadu who went missing after their boat capsized near the Andhra Pradesh coast have been found, according to the Hindustan Times. Prakasam District Collector P Raja Babu confirmed on Thursday that four bodies have been recovered following the incident caused by Cyclone Murasu.

The fishermen had departed from Chennai on October 29. While their boats were initially anchored at Ramayapatnam and Nizampatnam ports, nine fishermen on a vessel anchored at Nizampatnam began moving towards Ramayapatnam on November 3 without notifying authorities, Babu said.

The boat was caught in strong winds and subsequently capsized while in transit. Of the four recovered bodies, three washed ashore at Kothapatnam and one was found during search operations. The deceased are being moved to the Government General Hospital mortuary.

The Tamil Nadu government has identified the nine fishermen and shared their details with officials. The Collector stated that the four bodies will be handed over to Tamil Nadu officials once necessary formalities are completed.

Search operations are ongoing to locate the five fishermen who remain missing. Arrangements are also being made to bring the capsized vessel to the coast.
