Four Tamil Nadu fishermen's bodies recovered after boat capsizes near Andhra coast
Search operations continue for five remaining fishermen after Cyclone Murasu caused a vessel to capsize near Nizampatnam Port.
Four fishermen from Tamil Nadu were found dead after their boat overturned near the Andhra Pradesh coast during Cyclone Murasu, according to the Hindustan Times. Prakasam District Collector P Raja Babu confirmed on Thursday that four bodies have been retrieved so far.
The fishermen had departed from Chennai on October 29. While four boats were anchored at various ports to avoid the cyclone, nine fishermen on a vessel anchored at Nizampatnam Port began moving toward Ramayapatnam Port on November 3 without notifying authorities, Babu said.
The boat reportedly encountered severe winds and capsized while in transit. Of the four recovered bodies, three washed up at Kothapatnam and one was found during search operations. All deceased have been moved to the Government General Hospital mortuary.
The Tamil Nadu government has shared the names and photographs of the nine missing fishermen with officials. The Collector stated that the four bodies will be handed over to Tamil Nadu officials once necessary formalities are completed.
Search efforts remain underway to locate the five fishermen who are still missing. Authorities are also making arrangements to bring the capsized boat to the coast.
