Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh may see heavy rainfall this week
The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain for several southern states and warned of a weakening depression following a cyclonic storm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh between November 5 and 11. According to a report by Mint, Kerala is also expected to experience heavy rain from November 5 to 8.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai issued a warning for 10 Tamil Nadu districts, including Kancheepuram, Vellore, Salem, and the Nilgiris, to expect light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning until 1 am on November 6. Urban Acres reported that Theni and Coimbatore districts are specifically expected to receive heavy rain with thunder and lightning.
The weather conditions are attributed to atmospheric circulation over the southern coastal parts of Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka. In Cuddalore, 9 centimetres of rain was recorded in the 24-hour period ending the morning of November 4.
Regarding the Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu, the IMD stated that the system weakened into a depression over east Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. The depression was moving north at 10 kmph and is expected to weaken further into a well-marked low-pressure area within 12 hours.
The IMD is monitoring the system using Doppler Weather Radars at Visakhapatnam and Machilipatnam. Other regions, such as Northeast India and parts of Odisha, are also expected to see isolated to scattered rainfall during the week.
