Rainfall from Cyclone Murasu weakens across Andhra Pradesh
Most parts of the state saw rain cease by November 5, though light showers may continue in southern coastal districts.
Rainfall caused by Cyclone Murasu has decreased significantly across Andhra Pradesh, according to a release from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), RTGS Department. By the morning of November 5, most areas in the state saw rain stop, with only very light showers reported in parts of the south coastal belt.
The News Mill reported that heavy rain on November 4 was primarily located in the Godavari belt, affecting West Godavari, East Godavari, Kakinada, Eluru, and Polavaram districts. On the morning of November 5, rain activity moved to Nellore district at light to moderate levels, while the Rayalaseema region and other districts saw little to no rainfall.
Urban areas have also seen a reduction in rain, with no new reports of waterlogging or heavy rainfall in towns. The highest two-day rainfall totals were recorded in the Godavari towns of Nidadavole, Kovvur, and Kakinada, as well as Mummidivaram and Amalapuram in Konaseema.
Water levels in reservoirs and drains have stabilised, with monitored projects showing steady or declining inflows. The Prakasam Barrage is discharging water at the same rate it receives, while levels in the Thammileru and Budameru rivers are now falling after rising the previous night.
No heavy rainfall warnings are currently in force, though Nellore, Tirupati, and Bapatla may see moderate rain towards the weekend. Authorities have advised residents in low-lying areas and near canals to remain cautious and follow district administration instructions.
