Rainfall from Cyclone Murasu weakens across Andhra Pradesh

Water levels in reservoirs and drains have stabilised as the cyclone's impact subsides across the state.

Rainfall associated with Cyclone Murasu weakened significantly across Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, according to reports from Telangana Today and ANI. By Thursday morning, most parts of the state saw rain cease, though some areas in the southern coastal belt experienced very light showers.

Heavy rain on November 4 was primarily concentrated in the Godavari belt, including the West Godavari, East Godavari, Kakinada, Eluru, and Polavaram districts. On the morning of November 5, rainfall activity moved to Nellore district but stayed at light to moderate levels. Most other areas, including the Rayalaseema region, saw little to no rain.

The highest cumulative rainfall over the last two days occurred in Nidadavole, Kovvur, and Kakinada, followed by Mummidivaram and Amalapuram in Konaseema. Urban areas have also seen a reduction in rain, with no towns reporting new waterlogging on Thursday morning.

The State Emergency Operations Centre of the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) stated that reservoirs and drains have stabilised. The Prakasam Barrage is discharging water at the same rate it receives it, while water levels in Thammileru and Budameru are now falling. Yerra Kalva has also stabilised, and the Kondaveeti Vagu pump house is operating to manage water levels.

Authorities have advised residents in low-lying areas or near canals and reservoirs to remain cautious and follow district administration instructions. People are also warned not to cross causeways or overflowing streams.

No heavy rainfall warnings are currently in force, though moderate rain may occur in Nellore, Tirupati, and Bapatla towards the weekend. The RTGS is monitoring the situation round-the-clock.
