Heavy rain forecast for South India while North remains dry

The India Meteorological Department predicts isolated heavy showers in several southern states on Friday, November 6.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated heavy rainfall for coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Friday, November 6, according to a report by India Today.

While parts of the south expect rain, much of northern, western, and central India, including Delhi-NCR, is set to remain dry. The IMD noted that a cyclonic circulation over east Telangana and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh continues to influence weather conditions after the remnants of Cyclone Murasu weakened.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Scattered showers are also expected across coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, and Lakshadweep.

Odisha may receive isolated to scattered rainfall on Friday, while the Andaman and Nicobar Islands may see showers. In the Northeast, the IMD has forecast a gradual increase in rainfall activity starting from November 8, affecting Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

In northern India, Delhi, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh are expected to remain dry on November 6. The IMD reported a dip in maximum temperatures in the north, noting that on November 4, readings in east and west Uttar Pradesh were more than 5 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average.

A fresh western disturbance is expected to affect the western Himalayan region from November 10, which may bring rain to parts of the hills.
