IMD issues rain and storm alerts for 15 states
The India Meteorological Department has warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across several states as a cyclonic system weakens into a depression.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for approximately 15 states, including Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh, predicting rain, thunderstorms and strong winds on November 5, according to India TV.
The alerts follow the weakening of a cyclonic storm, which has persisted as a depression over eastern Telangana and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh. This system is expected to influence southern, eastern and northern parts of the country.
In Delhi, the IMD forecast cloudy skies and light rainfall for the national capital and adjoining areas on Thursday, with wind speeds of 15 to 20 kmph. The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to be 31 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may be around 17 degrees Celsius.
Several districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra, Kanpur, Moradabad, Mathura and Sonbhadra, are likely to receive rain with wind speeds of 35 to 40 kmph. In Bihar, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Patna, Gaya, Buxar, Bhojpur, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Purnia, Araria and Bhagalpur.
The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall in South Interior Karnataka and thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 40 to 50 kmph in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. In the Himalayan region, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir may see rainfall, with snowfall possible in higher-altitude areas.
Residents in vulnerable hilly regions have been advised to be cautious of landslides and slippery roads. The IMD also advised people to avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms and to stay away from exposed areas during lightning activity.
