Cyclone Murasu impact wanes as rainfall subsides in Andhra Pradesh
The State Emergency Operations Centre reported that rainfall has largely stopped across most districts with no heavy rain warnings currently in force.
The impact of severe cyclonic storm Murasu has weakened across Andhra Pradesh, with rainfall activity decreasing in most areas, according to reports from The New Indian Express, Hindustan Times and Deccan Chronicle on Thursday.
By Thursday morning, most parts of the state saw rain stop, though very light showers continued in some south coastal locations. Heavy rainfall on November 4 was primarily concentrated in the Godavari belt, including West Godavari, East Godavari, Kakinada, Eluru and Polavaram districts.
On Thursday, rain activity moved to Nellore district at light to moderate levels, while most other areas, including the Rayalaseema region, saw little to no rain. Urban rainfall has also declined, with no towns reporting fresh waterlogging on Thursday morning.
Water levels in reservoirs and drains have stabilised, with inflows into monitored projects showing steady or falling trends. The Prakasam Barrage is discharging water at the same rate it receives, while levels in Thammileru and Budameru are receding after rising on Wednesday night.
The State Emergency Operations Centre stated that the impact of the cyclone has largely eased and no heavy rainfall warning is in place. Isolated light to moderate rain is expected in the coming days, with slightly higher moderate rain possible in Nellore, Tirupati and Bapatla towards the weekend.
Authorities have advised people in low-lying areas or near canals and reservoirs to remain cautious and follow district administration instructions. Residents are also cautioned not to cross overflowing causeways or streams.
