Electricity supply restored to 29 lakh consumers in cyclone-hit Andhra areas
Restoration work continues across coastal districts after Cyclone Murasu damaged power infrastructure in several areas.
Power utilities in Andhra Pradesh have restored electricity to nearly 29 lakh consumers in cyclone-affected areas, according to the Hindustan Times. Restoration work is still progressing across the coastal districts.
Cyclone Murasu made landfall near Kothapatnam on November 3, causing severe damage to power infrastructure in Bapatla, Prakasam, Palnadu, Guntur, NTR and Krishna districts. The storm also damaged several extra-high-tension transmission lines.
Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K Vijayanand reviewed the operations at the State Load Dispatch Centre (APSLDC). He said that while electricity has been restored to nearly 29 lakh consumers, work is continuing in affected coastal districts.
Vijayanand noted that some areas face delays because electricity poles fell into ponds and waterlogging is preventing personnel from erecting new poles. Officials are making alternative arrangements to provide temporary power in these locations.
In the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) zone, 1,001 specialised teams comprising 11,537 personnel restored power across 552 substations and 5,753 villages. In the APCPDCL zone, more than 230 teams restored electricity to over three lakh domestic and commercial connections in flood-affected mandals including Naguluppala Padu and Kothapatnam.
Vijayanand urged the public to stay away from snapped wires, fallen electricity poles and electrical equipment in waterlogged areas.
