Former kabaddi player secures Rs 1 crore insurance for seven players

Inderjit Singh Sekhon has arranged worldwide insurance cover for seven players to protect them against illness, injury and accidents.

Former kabaddi player Inderjit Singh Sekhon has arranged insurance cover of Rs 1 crore each for seven state players, according to The Tribune. The policy covers illness, injury and accidents, and is valid worldwide for a period of three years.

The seven players covered so far include Bullet Khiranwali, Amba Soor Singh, Amrit Aulakh, Chhota Nath, Dulla Chattha, Jaggu Hakamwalian and Fateh Jand. These individuals are known names on the kabaddi circuit.

Sekhon, a former player who played for the Punjab State Electricity Board and in international matches, said the initiative stems from his personal experience. He noted that players often lack funds for injury treatment or spend all their earnings on medical costs.

Kabaddi commentator and author Dr Sukhdarshan Singh Chahal said this is the first time a kabaddi player has been insured. He stated that insurance will help players get timely medical treatment in a high-intensity, body-contact game where injuries are normal.

Sekhon, who is now a promoter and organiser of the sport, said players have long been treated as property by tournament organisers. He added that the insurance will be a game-changer for young players.
