Police bust interstate cockfight gambling den in Bijapur forest

Authorities seized more than Rs 20 lakh and 47 four-wheelers during a raid on a gambling site near Raiguda village.

Police busted an interstate cockfight gambling den in a former Maoist-controlled forest area in Bijapur district on November 3, according to The Times of India.

The raid took place near Raiguda village under the Bhadrakali police station limits. Officers apprehended 156 people at the site.

During the operation, police seized more than Rs 20 lakh, 47 four-wheelers, and 12 mobile phones. The gambling event attracted participants from Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.

Acting on intelligence regarding large-scale betting organised under the guise of traditional cockfights, police cordoned off the forest location. The sudden arrival of officers caused panic, and several participants tried to flee before 156 people were rounded up.

The crackdown occurred before Diwali, a period when police increase surveillance against illegal betting. The Times of India described the operation as one of the biggest gambling busts in Bastar.
