Chief Minister Revanth Reddy sets December target for barrage restoration
The Telangana government aims to begin repair works on the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages by the end of the year.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to start restoration works on the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages in December, according to Telangana Today.
The Chief Minister issued these instructions during a review meeting with Ministers and Irrigation Department officials on Thursday to discuss the safe repair of the three damaged structures.
Reddy stated that the restoration must follow the advice provided by dam safety experts and Central government agencies. He told officials to obtain final approvals for the works by the end of this month to ensure work begins before the year ends.
The Chief Minister also addressed claims regarding water lifting at Medigadda. While engineers noted that lifting water from the barrage was not technically possible under current conditions, Reddy said the government had used the Devadula and Sitarama lift irrigation schemes to utilise Godavari water for Warangal, Nalgonda and Khammam districts.
Reddy maintained that 24.81 TMC of water had been put to use through the two projects by October, consisting of 16.71 TMC from Devadula and 8.10 TMC from Sitarama. He noted that the annual average lifted through the Devadula project rose from 9.57 TMC during the previous government to 18.13 TMC over the last three years.
The estimated cost for the restoration proposals is approximately Rs 4,193 crore. Under these plans, construction companies will cover costs for structural defect repairs, while the state government will pay for additional works.
