Twenty-two fire service units were deployed to douse a blaze at a commercial building in the Karol Bagh area on Friday.
A fire broke out at a shop in the Gaffar Market area of Karol Bagh, Delhi, during the early hours of Friday, according to reports from India TV and Hindustan Times. The blaze was reported at approximately 1.30 am at Puri Plaza in Block 13, Chain Wali Gali.
The fire started in a ground-floor shop containing mobile batteries and spread through the four-storey commercial building. Emergency responders, including 22 fire tenders, water bowsers, lighting equipment, and three CAT ambulances, were sent to the site to manage the situation.
While the exact cause of the fire is not yet known, Hindustan Times noted that the overheating or overcharging of batteries is a possible cause. A report will be sought from the fire department and the Electrical Inspector, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team will examine the building.
No casualties or injuries have been reported so far, though property damage has occurred. The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) has brought the fire under control.
This incident follows two other major fires in the capital within 24 hours, including a factory fire in Narela and a fire at an institute in Laxmi Nagar. On Tuesday, Home Minister Ashish Sood said the state government would amend the DFS Rules to improve fire safety measures and engage third-party auditors.
