Government to discuss compensation after Gaffar Market fire, says MP

North West Delhi MP Yogendra Chandolia visited the Karol Bagh site where a blaze caused property damage but no casualties.

A fire broke out at a shop in Puri Plaza, Gaffar Market, Karol Bagh, on Friday, November 6, according to reports by ANI and Siasat. The blaze was reported at 1.30 am in the 13 Block area of the market.

Twenty-two fire service vehicles, including water tenders and bowsers, were deployed to the site to manage the situation. Deputy Chief Fire Officer MK Chattopadhyay said the fire began in one or two ground floor shops before spreading to the upper floors of the building.

The building consists of a basement, a ground floor, and three upper floors, housing mobile accessories and crockery shops. Chattopadhyay noted that the structure lacks adequate ventilation and has only a single staircase, adding that intense heat has made firefighting operations difficult.

North West Delhi MP Yogendra Chandolia visited the location to assess the damage, describing the event as an unfortunate incident involving property loss but no injuries or deaths. He stated that the government will discuss compensation and conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Chandolia also commended the fire department for preventing the flames from spreading to more buildings. He said the damage could have been much larger if the administration and fire tenders had not arrived on time.
