Vaibhav Sooryavanshi named Bihar captain for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches

The 15-year-old left-hander will lead the state side for the first two fixtures of the tournament in Indore.

The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) has appointed 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as captain for Bihar's first two matches of the 2026-27 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. According to The Indian Express, the 17-member squad will face Saurashtra on November 14 and Railways on November 16 in Indore.

Suraj Kashyap has been named vice-captain. The BCA finalised the squad following a selection committee meeting on November 6, after trials held between November 4 and 6, as reported by NewsX.

Sooryavanshi previously served as vice-captain for the East Zone side during the Duleep Trophy, where he briefly captained the team when Ishan Kishan left the field due to a wrist injury. The left-handed batter has also been the leading run-scorer for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 and recently made his international T20I debut against England.

BCA president Harsh Vardhan stated that the captaincy offers Sooryavanshi an opportunity to develop as a leader and expressed hope that the team would deliver a disciplined and competitive performance.

All-rounder Mangal Mahour and pacer Shakib Hussain have been included in the squad, though their participation will be decided after their fitness is evaluated following the opening two games.

The Bihar squad includes Alok Kumar, Ayush Loharuka, Altamash Ashraf, Param Kumar Singh, Anmol Kumar, Ritwik Raj, Mayank Kumar, Raghvendra Pratap, Ashish Kumar, Vasudev Pratap Singh, Mohammad Izhar, Amod Yadav, Prashant Singh, Nawaz Khan, and Himanshu Singh.
