Southern Railway to run 130 special trains for festive season

Chennai Metro Rail Limited will also extend its operating hours on Friday to accommodate the Deepavali rush.

Southern Railway will operate nearly 130 special trains from the pre-Deepavali period until Chhath Puja to handle increased passenger demand, according to The New Indian Express.

General Manager U Subba Rao said on Wednesday that 70 to 80 of these trains will run within Tamil Nadu, while the remaining 40 will travel towards northern and eastern regions.

Between November 6 and 10, unreserved services using 12-car MEMU coaches will run from Chennai and Tambaram to Manamadurai and Trichy to assist passengers travelling to southern Tamil Nadu, according to Urban Acres.

One service, Train No. 06161, is scheduled to leave Tambaram at 5.30pm on November 6 and arrive in Manamadurai at 3.45am on November 7.

To manage the Deepavali period, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will extend its service hours across all three corridors on Friday.

CMRL will start evening peak-hour services at 4 pm instead of 5 pm and run them until 9 pm. Last trains on the Green and Blue Lines will depart at midnight, while Yellow Line services will run until 11 pm.
