Fire breaks out at shop in Delhi's Ghaffar Market
More than 22 fire service units were sent to Karol Bagh after a blaze spread to several shops in the commercial area.
A fire broke out at a shop in Puri Plaza, located in the 13 Block Chain Wali Gali of Delhi's Ghaffar Market in Karol Bagh. The Delhi Fire Service received an emergency call regarding the incident around 1:30 AM, according to India Today.
Over 22 fire service units, including water bowsers and lighting equipment, were sent to the site. Firefighters worked for more than seven hours as the flames reached nearby shops in the crowded commercial zone.
The narrow lanes, overhead wires, and small shop sizes of 20 to 30 square feet made the work difficult. Large vehicles could not enter the alleys due to these conditions and the presence of inflammable electronic materials.
Firefighters had to park heavy tenders on the main road hundreds of metres away and use water pipes to reach the market. No injuries or deaths were reported because the market was closed at the time of the fire.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze will start once the cooling operations are finished.
