Festive shopping rush causes heavy traffic congestion across Delhi roads
Commuters reported long delays and bottlenecks in several areas including Sadar Bazar and Karol Bagh on Wednesday.
Commuters in Delhi faced severe traffic congestion on Wednesday as festive shopping for Diwali, traffic snarls, and GRAP restrictions impacted city roads, according to The Pioneer.
The congestion was reported in several areas including Sadar Bazar, Karol Bagh, and central Delhi. In Sadar Bazar, vehicles were allegedly parked illegally along the footpath towards Qutub Road Chowk, leaving little space for pedestrians.
Motorists reported various delays across the city. At Inderlok, vehicles remained nearly stationary for almost 30 minutes at a traffic signal, while motorists at Teen Murti Marg and Kushak Road reported being stuck for about 20 minutes.
At Modi Mill near Kalkaji, more than 200 cars were stuck in traffic for over 30 minutes. Similar congestion was noted at Dwarka, East of Kailash, and near the Blind School where a Diwali mela was underway.
In north Delhi, commuters flagged bottlenecks at Prerna Chowk and the Keshav Puram Metro station, alleging that improperly parked vehicles contributed to the issue. At the Ghazipur border, restrictions on non-BS-VI vehicles entering Delhi added to the situation.
Commuters have sought intervention from the Delhi Traffic Police, requesting more personnel and volunteers at major intersections to manage indiscriminate parking and the festive rush.
