The Greater Chennai Traffic Police and Tambaram City Police will deploy special teams and regulate vehicle movement until November 7 to manage festive travel.
The Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) and Tambaram City Police have announced traffic diversions and deployed special teams to manage the Deepavali festive rush in Chennai. According to The New Indian Express, these measures will remain in place until November 7 to ensure passenger safety and regulate traffic.
The GCTP has introduced restrictions on heavy and commercial vehicles. Vehicles arriving from Poonamallee will be diverted at Alappakkam Junction, while those travelling from Madhavaram towards Koyambedu will be routed through Sengundram and the 200 Feet Outer Ring Road. These vehicles will not be permitted into the city or towards Maduravoyal.
More than 2,300 special buses will operate from the Koyambedu and Madhavaram termini. Five help desks have been established at key locations, including the Porur toll plaza, the omni bus terminus, the EC office, and the Madhavaram and Koyambedu bus termini. Ambulances will also be stationed near Madhavaram, Koyambedu, and Porur.
In Tambaram, approximately 1,500 police personnel will be deployed round the clock at the Vandalur junction, GST Road, and the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) in Kilambakkam. Security arrangements will continue until November 7 for outbound passengers, with further arrangements on November 9 and 10 for the return rush.
Buses heading to southern districts will operate from KCBT, while services to Tiruvannamalai will run from Kilambakkam Climate Park and those to Kumbakonam from the Maraimalai Nagar bus stand. Police have also formed special teams to monitor private omnibuses to prevent overcharging.
