Vetri special vegetable hampers provide relief to Nilgiris families

The scheme offers fresh vegetables at affordable prices through co-operative department outlets to help residents manage rising costs.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has launched the Vetri special vegetable hamper scheme to assist residents in the Nilgiris, according to the Deccan Chronicle.

The initiative aims to provide middle and low income families with fresh, high-quality vegetables at rates significantly lower than those found in the open market.

Each Rs 100 kit includes various items such as 500 grams each of onion and tomato, 250 grams each of brinjal and potato, 200 grams each of carrot and beans, 100 grams each of green chilli and lemon, 50 grams of ginger, and approximately 400 to 450 grams of coconut.

The hampers are being sold via outlets of the co-operative department across the Nilgiris.

The scheme is intended to counter the high market prices of essential vegetables in the region, as most daily-use produce is brought in from the plains.
