Abhishek Banerjee alleges BJP attack on his Kolkata residence
The Trinamool Congress leader claimed his home was targeted at 2 am on Saturday following reports of surveillance.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee alleged that his Kalighat residence in Kolkata was attacked by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at approximately 2 am on Saturday, according to reports by the Free Press Journal, Deccan Chronicle and Times Now.
Banerjee stated on X that the incident occurred while the Kolkata Police were present. He claimed this was the seventh time in half a year that an attempt had been made on his life.
The TMC leader said the attack followed his release of a video showing unidentified people conducting reconnaissance of his office and home for two days. He alleged that when these individuals were questioned, they identified themselves as police personnel.
Banerjee further claimed that two of his colleagues were injured during the clash. He alleged one colleague suffered a facial bone fracture and another sustained a thumb injury that required plastic surgery.
The BJP has dismissed the allegations as drama. Senior West Bengal BJP leader Dilip Ghosh questioned the circumstances of the gathering and suggested the TMC was using emotional rhetoric to mislead the public.
The incident occurred amid ongoing political tensions in West Bengal, where both the ruling TMC and the BJP have frequently accused each other of violence and intimidation.
