Fire breaks out in four Karmabhumi Express coaches in Punjab
No casualties or injuries were reported after the unreserved train stopped near Sarai Banjara station on Friday.
A fire broke out in four coaches of the Karmabhumi Express near the Sarai Banjara railway station in Punjab on Friday, according to reports from Onmanorama, The News Mill and ANI. The unreserved train was travelling from Amritsar to New Jalpaiguri when the blaze occurred on the Rajpura-Sirhind railway section in the Ambala division.
The fire reportedly started in a general coach and spread to two more coaches, while a fourth coach sustained minor damage. The train's automated safety system was triggered, allowing the train to come to a safe halt near the station. Northern Railway fire tenders and senior officials arrived at the scene to bring the fire under control.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) of the Ambala Division, Yashanjit Singh, said the incident is currently a matter of inquiry and that the primary concern was ensuring passengers reached their destinations safely. He confirmed that three coaches caught fire and a fourth was slightly affected, but no information regarding casualties was received.
To assist passengers, the railways arranged for them to walk approximately 500 metres to a nearby station to board a replacement train. Northern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay stated that the cause of the fire has not been determined.
A formal technical investigation has been ordered to examine electrical lines, mechanical systems, or external factors to establish the cause of the fire.
