The facility at Nehru Park on Dal Lake will now operate from 9 am to 9 pm to accommodate increased demand.
The Department of Posts has extended the operating hours of the Floating Post Office at Nehru Park on Dal Lake, Srinagar. According to reports from The Tribune and Times of India, the facility will now remain open for 12 hours a day, from 9 am to 9 pm.
Officials stated the decision was made due to high footfall at Nehru Park and requests for postal services outside of standard timings. The move follows a positive reaction to similar timing extensions at the Lal Chowk Head Post Office.
Chief Postmaster General for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, Col Sagar Hanuman Singh, visited the houseboat facility to review services and speak with tourists and locals. He said the goal is to offer more convenience to customers, houseboat operators, and residents.
Prateek, Director of Postal Services for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, noted that the post office serves as both a functional service and a tourist attraction. He said the new schedule provides more flexibility for those accessing the facility.
Adam Mohi U Din, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices for the Srinagar Postal Division, said the department is looking into whether working hours can be extended at other post offices in the region in the future.
